UNFCCC - the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is one of the largest international environmental agreements. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme body of the Convention. Its sessions are organised regularly (once a year) to specify rules for UNFCCC implementation.
Government delegations of countries that ratified the Convention (Parties to the Convention) and observers participate in negotiations and sessions of the Conference. Thousands of participants from approx. 190 countries take part in annual meetings.
The conference agenda includes not only plenary sessions and working group meetings, but also a series of side events (presentations, seminars, happenings, exhibitions) aimed at raising awareness about problems related to global climate change. Non-government organisations, with numerous representatives at the conference, are especially active in this area.
